Freelance Media Psychologist

  • Work includes media psychology-based implementation and research for several individuals and organizations. These include Hybrid Cinema of Los Angeles, CA, and Dr. Joshua Cohen, a media psychologist himself for whom I wrote a chapter (with my musician-wife), for a book Dr. Cohen compiled, on how I use and have used media psychology to assist me in mourning. That book was published in January 2026, and I am now working on a chapter for another of his books about how I used musical media to motivate me while completing my Doctorate. Additional experience comes from copywriting on demand for Tanglewood Conservatories of Denton, MD, including blog posts, email teasers, & other copy. All work completed and submitted remotely.

Adjunct Faculty

  • I began teaching at Chesapeake College in the Fall of 2023 when I taught 1 COM-101 class in-person (F2F – Face to Face) 
  • Since then, and as of the time of writing, I have taught this class 12 times, including 9 F2F (in person). The 10th course was conducted online (my first time online for Chesapeake College as a teacher) and in a special condensed format that took the normal 15 weeks and compressed it to 5 weeks.
  • This Spring I taught another 2 COM-101 classes online for the Spring semester on a regular semester format.
  • For Fall 2026, I am scheduled to teach 2 more F2F classes, at the Wye Mills campus & at another local high school.
  • The F2F courses have been taught both on-campus (at the Wye Mills locations) and off-site at several local area high schools.
  • Students taught include Dual Enrollment (High School students) up to and including older and working adults
  • Communication topics covered include business/organizational communication, verbal and non-verbal best practices, communication ethics, public speaking, group-based communication, APA style, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • I also apply my media psychology expertise to explain the behavior behind much of the communication phenomena taught, otherwise discussed, and demonstrated.

  • Basically, I headed up a team of research creatives and help integrate them and our efforts with our larger team at FiNC, including Art, Marketing, and Outreach. 
  • I consulted regularly with company leadership on areas related to my media psychology expertise, such as messaging and product and service development and implementation.
  • In addition, I also collected facts for the various departments, ensured their credibility and reliability, and published them in an ongoing company spreadsheet of “Master” facts and/or in articles for company publication.

(Note: This was a progressive 3-Month Traineeship arranged & paid via the MTC. It allowed me to get real-world media psychology experience while I used my expertise to help a company improve their social media strategy and content.)

  • by advising on Workhorse America’s social media strategy and content, including by providing state-of-the-art advice on an almost daily basis.

Maryland Watermen’s Association (MWA)  Annapolis, MD April 2016 – January 2017 Office/Editorial Assistant

I actively applied my media psychology expertise at the MWA in several ways, including:

  • writing, reporting, and helping to edit the Association’s flagship publication the Waterman’s Gazette, a monthly print publication with an estimated readership of 5000 covering local to national seafood issues and other topics of interest to members and friends of the Maryland seafood industry.  
  • assisting with the Association’s e-commerce by filling out phone and web-based orders, including orders related to the Association’s yearly seafood trade exposition
  • collaborating with my Supervisor to maintain and update content on the Association’s Facebook page.
  • assisting in the formatting and presentation of the Association’s newly revamped website 
  • performing clerical tasks on a daily basis such as directing phone traffic and otherwise answering queries from Association members and the general public via email, phone, and social media. Other duties included updating the Association’s online calendar and taking Association Board meeting minutes.
